Carol Miller will explore:
The regulations governing social work practice in the State of Texas (22 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 781) are in the process of adoption of changes approved by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners on September 11, 2010.  Knowledge of the rule change process as well as the content of some of the changes is an ethical requirement for social workers throughout Texas.  The Executive Director of the Board will present information on the rule change process as well as content of some of the approved rule changes.  A question and answer period will follow the presentation.  Click on the link below to review proposed legislation before the 82nd Legislature:

Rosemary Farmer will explore:

This workshop proposes to introduce clinical social workers to the neurosciences and to focus on reasons why social workers need to become knowledgeable about recent findings from neuroscience.  The workshop will focus on selected areas of neuroscience research, which seem to be especially relevant to social work practice:  attachment theory pre- and post-neuroscience; a neurodevelopmental view of trauma; the neurobiology of psychotherapy; the neurobiology of abuse and addiction; and psychotropic medications and the neuroscience revolution.  A Transactional Model will be used as the conceptual framework for understanding and applying neuroscience research findings to practice, and as a model for social work contributions to the development of social neuroscience.  Case vignettes will be used to demonstrate how neuroscience findings can be applied in specific clinical situations.  Click the link below to review excerpts from her book:
